DRIVING IN FROM VANCOUVER

Vancouver is the farthest destination from Valemount. However, this eight hour drive offers you the opportunity to see the vast diversity of southern British Columbia. From the Pacific ocean and coastal mountains that surround this city, on up through the open range land of the Cariboo to the city of Kamloops, the climate and vegetation make a dramatic change.

Continuing north from Kamloops the scenery will change again, from a semi-arid landscape into lush dense forest, as the Monashee mountains rise from the east and the Cariboo mountains from the west, forming the North Thompson river valley. The river in this narrow valley is fed from both sides by many glaciers and large snow packs that support the worlds finest wilderness skiing.

Approaching Valemount the valley opens wide to include the Rocky Mountains and the headwaters of the Columbia and Fraser rivers. Here a drier climate prevails with pine fir and aspen forests. Welcome to the Robson Valley!
